Two Grand Prizes of Petro Canada gift cards, each totaling $5,000, are available to be won. Each Grand Prize will be delivered to the winners in the form of 50 - $100 cards.

Ten secondary prizes of Petro Canada gift cards, each totaling $250, are also available to be won throughout the Contest Period, defined below. Each secondary prize will be delivered to the winners in the form of 10 - $25 cards.

Contest Period 

The Incentive to Get a Home or Auto Quote Contest (the “contest”) begins at 12:01 a.m. EST on November 1, 2018 and closes at 4:59:59 p.m. EST on August 31, 2019 (“Contest Closing Date”). Please read the full contest rules and regulations, the Petro Canada Terms and Conditions/restrictions and details below.

Contest Eligibility

This contest is open to all active and retired Ontario education employees, including members of CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees), resident of Ontario. Contestants must be at least 18 years of age at the time they enter this contest. Contestants who have an auto and a home insurance policy through OTIP/RAEO Insurance Brokers Inc. (“OTIP”) are not eligible unless a quote for insurance for an additional home or an additional auto is requested, not currently insured through OTIP. For clarity, contestants cannot request a quote for any home or auto already insured through OTIP. Contestants who only have one insurance product with OTIP (either a home or an auto policy), can request a quote for the home or auto not insured through OTIP to be eligible to enter the contest. All contestants requesting quotes for insurance must either own and be in possession of the home or auto being insured at the time of the quote or have entered into an agreement to own and/or be in possession of the home or auto being insured. This includes Leases for residential tenancies. Employees, directors, trustees and officers of OTIP and its affiliated companies ¹, (collectively for purposes of this contest, “OTIP”), the prize selection team and members of their respective immediate families and/or anyone with whom the employees, directors, trustees or officers of OTIP are domiciled, are excluded.

To enter and be eligible, contestants must request a free, no-obligation home or auto quote from OTIP, either online at OTIPinsurance.com/promotion or by phone with an OTIP Customer Sales Representative by calling toll free at 1-800-267-6847.If a quote is received online, contestants MUST speak with an OTIP customer sales representative by telephone to review and confirm their free, no-obligation quote before being eligible to be entered into the contest.

Contestants will be asked for their contact information, being their first and last name, phone number (residential or cell phone), city of residence and postal code and email address, details on the type of auto and/or home to be potentially insured (“mandatory information”) before they can be entered into the contest and eligible to win any of the prizes, including one of the Grand Prizes. Failure to complete the mandatory information and to speak with an OTIP Customer Sales Representative to review and confirm their quote means the contestant will not be entered into the contest.

Only one auto insurance quote or one residential insurance quote is required for the contestant to be eligible to enter the contest. Requesting multiple quotes whether on homes and/or autos will not increase the contestant’s chances into the contest. A maximum of one entry is allowed per contestant into the contest throughout the Contest Period. Contest can only be entered once.

By requesting a quote for insurance and entering the contest, contestants agree and consent to having an OTIP customer sales representative speak to them about the free, no-obligation insurance quote requested and to discuss insurance matters applicable to them. Contestants do not have to be currently insured through OTIP.

Contestants obtaining quotes directly from insurers associated with OTIP will not be eligible to enter the contest. All contestants must request a quote through OTIP and speak with an OTIP customer sales representative.

How to Enter – Online or by Telephone

Request a quote online at OTIPinsurance.com/promotion by entering all the mandatory information and then speaking with an OTIP customer sales representative to discuss the quote; or, by telephone by calling toll free at 1-800-267-6847and speaking with an OTIP customer sales representative to review the quote and be automatically entered into the contest. Contestants must complete all mandatory information and must speak with an OTIP customer sales representative to be eligible to enter the contest. All quotes are free and there is no obligation on the contestant’s part to act on the quote after discussing it with a customer sales representative. Only one quote can be requested during the Contest Period. Multiple entries into this contest under this rule, no matter how entered, will be considered duplicate entries to the contest, declared void and the contestant will be disqualified from the contest rendering them ineligible for any of the prizes including the Grand Prizes. Entries into the contest are limited to one entry per person.

Contestants who enter the contest during the month for a secondary prize are only eligible for that secondary prize offered during that month. Contestants’ names entered into one draw for a secondary prize will not be entered into another draw for another secondary prize. Only one secondary prize can be won by an eligible contestant throughout the contest. See “Winner Selection / Draws” section below for time periods and prizes. All contestants who enter the contest at any time will be eligible for one of the two Grand Prizes.

To be eligible for the Grand Prize, entries must be received on or before 4:59:59 p.m. EST on the Contest Closing Date. To be eligible for the secondary prizes, entries must be received on or before 4:59:59 pm EST on the last day of the specific month the prize is offered. In disputes, quotes requested online may be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. Authorized account holder is deemed as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address.

Winner Selections / Draws

Ten separate and random draws will be made for the secondary prizes throughout the Contest Period, from all eligible entries submitted into the contest during the month for each secondary prize. Two separate and random draws will be made for the Grand Prizes, from all eligible entries submitted into the contest during the entire Contest Period, up to and including, the Contest Closing Date. Each separate and random draw, whether for secondary prizes or the Grand Prizes, will take place in Waterloo, Ontario on or about the following draw dates by an independent selection team, as follows:

Secondary prize draws for all eligible contestants who received a quote in:

1. November 2018: one draw will take place the first week of December 2018
2. December 2018: one draw will take place the first week of January 2019
3. January 2019: one draw will take place the first week of February 2019
4. February 2019: one draw will take place the first week of March 2019
5. March 2019: one draw will take place the first week of April 2019
6. April 2019: one draw will take place the first week of May 2019
7. May 2019: one draw will take place the first week of June 2019
8. June 2019: one draw will take place the first week of July 2019
9. July 2019: one draw will take place the first week of August 2019
10. August 2019: one draw will take place the first week of September 2019

Two Grand Prize draws from all eligible contestants who received a quote during the Contest Period will take place the first week of September 2019.

The winner from one draw of a secondary prize will not be reentered into the contest for a chance to win another draw for a secondary prize but will be reentered into the contest for a chance to win one of the two Grand Prizes. All contestants, winners or not of the secondary prizes, are eligible for one of the Grand Prizes. 

Odds of winning are dependent on the number of eligible entries received by the end of the month for each secondary prize and by the Contest Closing Date for the Grand Prizes. All decisions by the independent prize selection team are final and binding on the participants in all matters relating to the contest.

To win any prize, including the Grand Prize, the selected contestant must first correctly answer without assistance of any kind, a time-limited, mathematical, skill-testing question in writing before being declared a prize winner.

For the purpose of these rules, the contestant is the person whose name was entered into the contest and is the owner of the home and/or auto for which the insurance quote was requested. In the event that more than one person is registered on the winning entry, all such persons will be jointly declared winners of the prize. They will then have to decide which one of them will answer the skill-testing question and receive the prize. In case of a disagreement between them, OTIP reserves the right to decide to which person the skill-testing question will be asked and the person to receive the prize if all other eligibility requirements are met.

The selected contestant will be notified by email or by phone using the information entered into the contest. If the selected contestant cannot be contacted or does not respond after a minimum of three attempts within seven calendar days from the first attempt at contact, or if a prize notification notice is returned as undeliverable, or if the contestant incorrectly answers the skill-testing question, declines the prize or fails to return a release of liability within 10 days’ time to OTIP, that contestant will be declared ineligible to win the prize, including, if applicable, the Grand Prize, and another contestant will be selected in the manner described above.

When a contestant is contacted as the selected winner for either a secondary prize and/or the Grand Prize, he or she will be asked for an address to where the skill-testing question, a declaration of compliance with contest rules, a liability and publicity release and their prize can be sent. The selected contestant may also be required to sign a liability and publicity release.

Post office box addresses are not acceptable as courier companies cannot deliver to box numbers. If the winner(s) resides at a country address and/or a rural route address, the winner(s) may be asked for their emergency-locate address or other identifiable information to assist the courier company with the delivery of the prize. The prize will be delivered to each eligible and confirmed winner approximately 2 weeks after the winner is confirmed save and except for any unforeseen events such as, but not limited to, a weather event, postal or courier strike, flood, fire, war, break out of disease, quarantine, hydro outage, service provider problems.

It is the sole responsibility of any contestant to notify OTIP’s marketing department of any changes to their contact information by calling 1-800-267-6847 or in writing at:  OTIP c/o Marketing Dept., P.O. Box 218, Waterloo, ON  N2J 3Z9, if they still wish to be entered into the contest. 

Entries and the prize claim are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, incomplete, mechanically reproduced, mutilated, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way.

General Conditions

This contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, territorial and municipal laws and regulations, is void where prohibited by law and is governed by Canadian laws and the laws of the Province of Ontario. If any provision of these rules is found by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, all other provisions will remain in full force and effect.

By participating in this contest, contestants agree to be bound by these rules and regulations and the rules and regulations set out by the provider of the prizes, Petro Canada.  

OTIP will not be held responsible for any errors or negligence that may arise or occur in connection with the contest including, but not limited to, the contestant’s information entered into the quote and the contest by any person, including, but not limited to, a customer sales representative.

All entries become the property of OTIP upon receipt and will not be returned. By entering this contest, contestants agree to the use of their personal information in accordance with the Privacy Policy regulating OTIP. When contestants participate in a contest OTIP may keep a record of the information, response or any opinion volunteered without reference to their identity to calculate the contest results on their respective websites or in other media such as business documents or leaflets sent to members. Collection of information, including name, address, phone number(s) and email address under this contest is strictly for the purposes of administering this contest and providing any materials or information requested by the contestant. OTIP will use personal information the contestant submits for the purposes of contacting a contestant and awarding a prize in the contest should the contestant be selected as a winner, and for contacting the contestant to discuss insurance matters related to home and auto policies should the contestant enter the expiry dates for their policies. By entering the contest, contestants who win any of the prizes, including the Grand Prize, agree to have their names published; however, the identities of contest winners and other personal information are never published without their written consent. Consent will not be unreasonably withheld. If the contestant requests marketing information about OTIP products and services, OTIP may send the marketing information to the contestant’s email address, residential address or as otherwise directed by the contestant. Personal information will not be shared with outside parties. If anyone wishes to receive marketing materials from OTIP or if anyone does not wish to receive marketing materials after consenting to do so can contact an OTIP marketing representative at 1-800-267-6847 or they can opt out of any electronic messages by clicking on the opt out option. Note:  all telephone calls are recorded for quality assurance.

All prizes of the prepaid Petro Canada gift cards will be sent to the winners by courier from OTIP and are non-transferable, non-assignable and non-exchangeable for cash or any other form except at the discretion of OTIP. The use of each of the prepaid gift cards falls under the rules and regulations, terms and conditions of Petro Canada, as amended from time to time. Neither Petro Canada nor OTIP will be responsible for any lost, stolen, or misplaced gift card delivered to a winner or for any gift card that has expired with a balance remaining on them, or for any fees or charges associated with each of the gift cards in any way, unless specified within the prize description. The gift cards will not be replaced, refunded or reimbursed if lost, stolen or misplaced. Purchase amounts that exceed the value of the tendered gift cards will require payment by the winner by some other method for the balance due.

The winners are responsible for ensuring they read and understand any rules, regulations and terms and conditions of Petro Canada. OTIP is not responsible for any failure to read and understand these rules, regulations and terms and conditions.

Any and all taxes on any prize awarded, including income taxes, and any incidental expenses associated with collection of the prize, are the sole responsibility of the winner. No substitutions will be made for any prize except at the discretion of OTIP who may substitute a prize of equal or greater value or substitute a provider of the prize in the event any of the contest prizes are no longer available, including the Grand Prize. All Internet fees, transactional fees, down-loading fees, up-loading fees, accessories, application fees, Wi-Fi costs, roaming charges, costs of programs, long distance charges, travel expenses, mileage, accommodations, meals and extraordinary expenses, including but not limited to beverages and any feature and accessory not expressly listed as part of any prize, including the Grand Prize, shall be the sole financial responsibility of the prize winner. None of the contestants and/or the prize winners will be eligible to seek reimbursement for the same from OTIP, its affiliates or representatives or any other party to this contest, including Petro Canada offering any and all prizes.

A prize shall be null and void if the winner of a specific prize does not accept their prize by August 31, 2020. All prizes may be subject to expiry dates set by Petro Canada and/or the company offering the prizes and the winner of any prize in this contest must agree to abide by those rules, regulations, restrictions, terms and conditions and expiry dates.

OTIP reserves the right to withdraw, terminate, suspend, cancel, amend or modify all or part of the contest, in any manner and any rule(s) of the contest, at any time and without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever or if it determines that for any reason the contest cannot be run as originally planned, including, but not limited to, technical failure or corruption, computer virus, bugs, computer, electronic or system malfunction, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or any other factor(s) or cause(s) beyond OTIP’s control which in OTIP’s opinion compromises the fairness or integrity of the contest and/or affects the administration, security, or proper conduct of this contest as contemplated by these official rules. Under this section OTIP is not obligated to award any secondary prize and/or any Grand Prize to any selected contestant.

If, as a result of an error relating to the entry process, entry, entry count, drawing or any other aspect of the contest, there are more potential winners of the secondary prizes and/or the Grand Prizes than contemplated in these rules, there will be a random draw amongst all eligible prize claimants after the Contest Closing Date to award the applicable prize.

By submitting a completed entry form to enter the contest, or by directing the OTIP customer sales representative to enter their name in the contest, the winner releases OTIP from any and all liability arising out of, or in connection with, this contest and the awarding of any prize, now or in the future. By entering this contest, the winner consents in writing to the use of their name, city and province where they reside by OTIP in a format approved by that winner, as well as any audio/video image, statements, and/or photographs in any related publicity and publication without further compensation, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media and social media now known or hereafter devised, including, but not limited to, the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Snapchat and in any publicity or advertising carried out by OTIP, unless prohibited by law. OTIP reserves the right to post or publish any winner’s name, city, or province of residence, photograph, likeness, voice or other statements, as directed by the winner, on its website and/or on the website of OTIP’s affiliated companies and/or on the sponsor’s website for advertising and promotional purposes, where lawful, without further compensation to the winner, worldwide and in perpetuity.

By entering in the contest, the winner agrees to sign a form of declaration confirming compliance with the contest rules and regulations and agrees to release, indemnify and forever discharge OTIP and its affiliated companies, directors, trustees, officers, employees, the prize selection team and any of their parents, affiliates, agents, and contractors, Petro Canada and any advertising and promotional agencies whether for the contest and/or the prize, and all their directors, trustees, officers and employees, from any and all action, proceedings, suits, liability, losses, costs, expenses (including legal fees and disbursements), damages, demands and claims of any kind, in respect of anything done by OTIP and Petro Canada in the performance of their duties hereunder in connection with the contest and/or resulting from the acceptance, possession or use of a prize or any part of a prize or any extension to a prize, including without limitation, but not limiting to, any loss, personal injury, death, disablement, dismemberment, property, home or auto damage, or claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy that could result from, but not limited to, the awarding or use of any prize, including but not limited to, the Grand Prize, by signing an Agreement / Release Form as a condition to and in advance of receiving their prize in favour of OTIP and the prize sponsor and neither OTIP or Petro Canada will be liable for the use or misuse of the prize. OTIP assumes no responsibility for the participation in the contest or any liability, claims, demands, actions, loss, damage or personal injury that may be sustained by the contestants and/or the winners.  The provisions of this section shall survive the termination of this contest and may be relied upon by the parties hereto at any time.

Failure to comply with these contest rules and regulations may result in disqualification from the contest at any time.

OTIP is not responsible for any entries that are lost, late, damaged, destroyed, corrupted or misdirected, incomplete, garbled, or delayed by or on any computer, online telephone or technical malfunctions that may occur in the processing transmission or receipt of entries.

OTIP is not responsible for any theft, destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; failures or malfunctions of electronic data transmission, telephones, telephone lines or telephone systems, interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections, any error, omission, interruption, defect or delay in any transmission or communication; traffic congestion on the Internet or for any technical problem, including but not limited to any injury or damage to the participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in this contest; the cancellation, suspension or preemption of games, injuries or timing errors, electronic or equipment failure or other communication problems occurring in connection with participation in this contest nor is it responsible for any transmission of viruses from any OTIP website to a computer system or if any whole entry system crashes resulting in the contest being cancelled or other problems or errors of any kind whether mechanical, human, electronic or otherwise.

OTIP, the prize selection team, and Petro Canada and any of their parents, affiliates, agents, and contractors, including advertising, sponsoring and promotional agencies, and their directors, trustees, officers and employees expressly disclaim and shall be held free of all responsibility or liability for any loss or damage in respect to any prize howsoever caused, any act, error, omission, injury, loss, accident, delay or the neglect or default of any company or person providing any service for the contest, whether through providers negligence or otherwise, or due to cancellations, adverse weather conditions, loss of personal belongings, illness, bodily injury, accident, death, deterioration of services, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, disappointment or frustration, either mental or physical due to any Acts of God, force majeure or third party wrong doing, epidemic, social or political disturbances or due to any cause whatsoever occurring during the contest and the use of the prize by the winner.

Present Petro Canada prepaid gift cards as payment at any participating Petro-Canada ^TM retail store.  PETRO-POINTS ^TM awarded upon usage, not gift card awarded or purchased.  Please protect your card as you would cash.  Lost, stolen or cards used without your authorization cannot be replaced or replenished.  Each Petro Canada prepaid gift card is not redeemable for cash except where legislation requires otherwise.  Use of the Petro Canada prepaid gift card constitutes acceptance of the terms and conditions of the card and the card carrier.  Prepaid Petro Canada gift cards issued by Suncor Energy Inc. For customer service and balance inquiries on prepaid gift cards, card holders are asked to call Petro Canada at 1-800-668-0220.
